The Legacy of Arturo Alfonso Schomburg on NJN’s Images/Imagenes
Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00 am

Trenton, NJ – The award-winning series Images/Imagenes on NJN Public Television examines the issues, trends, and concerns important to the Latino community and celebrates Latino culture with features on music, dance, and art. This month, Images/Imagenes presents a special program on the life and legacy of Arturo Alfonso Schomburg in honor of National Black History Month. A collector, historian and community activist, Schomburg fought racial prejudice and helped preserve and promote African history in the Americas. Tune in to NJN for Images/Imagenes Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00 am.

Images/Imagenes: Tribute to Hector Lavoe
Thursday, February 1 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, December 4 at 8:00 am

One of the greatest vocalists in the history of Latin music, Hector Lavoe is celebrated in this edition of Images/Imagenes. A talented vocalist who gained fame all over the world yet died a troubled young man, Lavoe, known as “El Cantante,” is the subject of an Off-Broadway production and a movie with Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez currently in production.

Images/Imagenes: Latino Traditions in Dance
Thursday, February 8 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, February 11 at 8:00 am

This program takes a look at Latino dances, their origins, and importance to Latin American culture. The success of television show “So You Think You Can Dance” will be featured and viewers will be surprised to learn that Benji, the winner of this national competition, lived in Mexico, speaks fluent Spanish, and loves pulsating Salsa.

Images/Imagenes: Schomburg: A Matter of Pride
Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, February 18 at 8:00 am

In celebration of National Black History Month, Images/Imagenes presents the story of Arturo Alfonso Schomburg. Born in Puerto Rico in 1874, Schomburg was an historian, collector and community activist. He amassed a collection of over 10,000 items highlighting the outstanding achievements made by people of African descent, disproving a statement made by a former teacher that “black people have no history, no heroes, no great moments.” In this special program, guests from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania come together to salute a man whose search for his own roots kept African history alive in the Americas.

Images/Imagenes: Latinos in Theatre and Fashion
Thursday, February 22 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, March 4 at 8:00 am

Yo Soy Latina, the sensational off-Broadway production comes to New Jersey; and the best Latino designers in the metro area unveil their collections in a unique show filled with Caribbean flavor. Check it out in this edition of Images/Imagenes.

Images/Imagenes airs on NJN Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 8:00 am. The half-hour program is web cast at njn.net and can be seen on NJN’s JerseyVision and on Time Warner Cable on channel 750 in New York. Closed captioning is provided.

NJN is available on all New Jersey cable systems, satellite systems, and Time Warner Cable channel 750 in NYC.
Images/Imagenes is also available via video streaming at njn.net after the original broadcast.
