Thomas
Bracken began his career as a management trainee with New
Jersey National Bank in 1969. By 1993 he had risen to the
position of President and Chief Executive Officer. When in
1996 New Jersey National Bank became part of CoreStates Bank,
N.A., Thomas A. Bracken was named President of the New Jersey
Market. In April of 1998, CoreStates merged with First Union
Bank, and he assumed the position of Executive Vice President
and head of Government Banking for New Jersey, New York and
Connecticut. He presently serves as head of First Union's
public sector group. The group includes government banking,
municipal finance and public finance and serves the government,
education and non-profit client base throughout the First
Union franchise. Residing in Skillman, New Jersey, with his
wife and two children, he supports many civic and professional
organizations. Bracken was appointed by New Jersey Governor
Christie Whitman to the Board of Trustees of the College of
New Jersey and to chair the ISTEA Works for New Jersey Coalition.
He currently chairs the Keep New Jersey Moving Initiative
and serves on the boards of the New Jersey State Chamber,
New Jersey Alliance for Action, the New Jersey Cancer Institute,
New Jersey Network, Prosperity New Jersey and McCarter Theatre
in Princeton. He has just completed a term as chairman and
remains on the board of the New Jersey Bankers Association.
He has served as president of the Northern New Jersey Chapter
of Robert Morris Associates. Tom in delighted to rejoin the
NJN Foundation Board. "NJN is not only a valuable educational
resource, but also, it is the only statewide source for daily
